Windows 95/98.
- 1. Right-click the 'Networks' Icon, select 'Properties'.
- 2. If not already there, 'Add' the NetBEUI Protocol from the Microsoft category
- 3. Select the NetBEUI-->(your Ethernet NIC) line
- 4. Click 'Properties', select 'Advanced' tab
- 5. Check the box for "Set this protocol to be the default protocol"
- 6. Close the "OK" and "Close" buttons
- 7. Windows may require some programs from the Windows Install Disk
- and may need to restart, to complete the setup procedure.
Windows 2000 - Professional
- 1. Right-Click "My Network Places" icon on the desktop and select "Properties"
- 2. Right-Click "Local Area Connections" and select "Properties"
- 3. If not already there, "Install" "Protocol" "NetBEUI"
- 4. Close the Network and Dial-up Connection window. Some programs may be needed from the Installation disk to complete the procedure.
- 5. Download from here lanaw2k.zip and unzip it in the root directory (C:\)
- 6. Open a command prompt window, make the root the default directory (cd C:\)
- 7. Enter the command : lanacfg showlanapaths
- 8. Note the lana number for the NetBEUI-->(your Ethernet NIC) - in the screen shot above, it is "2".
- 9. Enter the command : lanacfg setlananumber (the-number-above) 0

The purpose of this command is to make sure that NetBEUI is associated with lana number 0 (zero), so that it is the default protocol.
- 10. Restart Windows 2000.
Note: NetBEUI on Windows 2000 allows to run both WinRTES and RTES in the same computer and make them talk to each other.
